And this shoot at The Barn on South Ridge was such a fun one to photograph.

One of my favorite things about photographing weddings at The Barn on South Ridge is just how much variety we can create without ever leaving the property.

The venue sits on top of South Ridge overlooking the orchard and surrounding bluffs, giving us those wide-open Minnesota views that photograph beautifully throughout the day.

There are options for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies and receptions, plus the barn and pavilion give couples flexibility when planning their day.

And then there is the orchard.

The rows of apple trees, open fields, ridge-top views, and changing light give us SO much to work with for portraits.

It’s one of those venues where we can walk a few minutes and suddenly create an entirely different look.

Southridge offers full weekend rental so you can have the space not for one day, but the entire weekend. You can get ready onsite, host your rehearsal dinner party, have a day after party, etc.

My favorite look is when couples decide to host their intimate dinners in the apple orchard rows for a personal dinner vibe. If you were hosting a dinner in the evening, you could add some string lights above the tables too for a stunning elevated look.

For this shoot, we wanted everything to feel romantic, elevated, and still completely at home within the natural setting of The Barn on South Ridge.

The details were brought together by Details Matter by Amber, helping create a finished look that felt intentional without taking away from the beauty of the venue itself.

Looks by Lynn completed the beauty look, while She Is Me brought another piece of the vision together.

I might be a little biased because this venue has a special place in my heart, but there are so many reasons I love photographing weddings here.

The Barn on South Ridge is family-owned and operated and sits on a beautiful apple orchard in La Crescent. Couples have access to indoor and outdoor spaces, making it possible to create a wedding day that really feels like their own.

But from a photographer’s perspective?

THE LIGHT.

Give me an open ridge, orchard rows, rolling bluff views, and a Minnesota sunset and I’m a very happy photographer.

The scenery gives us room to create those big, sweeping portraits while still having plenty of intimate little spots for photos that feel warm, natural, and connected.

And because everything is right there, we don’t have to spend your wedding day driving all over town chasing pretty photo locations.

We can simply step outside and create them.
